Rocky

08 November by Michael Kellenter

Rocky used to be a neighbor of mine. Nothing earth shattering to say about him. He never was keen attracting attention too much. Every now and then I saw him grazing on the range land next to his stable where he lived together with his little friend, a pony. Sometimes when being out with my dog I saw them killing time by chasing each other across the grasslands and not only once I had the feeling he let his friend win on purpose. Rocky normally never looked beyond his nose and I would not at all name him a curious horse. He accidentally was out of bounds that evening grazing on the backyard instead of being on the range land and so he found a world beyond the fence being completely new to him. I asked him to stay for a while. At least long enough to let me get my Hasselblad and shoot a picture of my astounded neighbor.

Rocky and his pony friend meanwhile are no longer my neighbors. They found another place. It´s a shame they were seperated.

I wish I had a neighbor like that!

Wow, well done, excellent B/W work. As beautiful as the story! You should definitely try more writing, too.

Best wishes, Frank

Really nice story Michael. I'm finding that my photography is made up of stories like this one and it's what makes me continue.

And I'm glad this is in english. Thanks for taking the time to include it here.

I agree on what you said concerning your photography, Larry. Not too long ago I thought a good photograph would not need a story behind it because a good photograph should be able to tell a story without words. I still consider this as true to a certain extent but meanwhile I am convinced that there´s always a story behind every good photograph which is worth being told. Thanks for stopping by, Larry. I dropped you an email a few days ago. Hope you received it?

Hi Michael, I did just get the email and replied to you. Between travel and getting stuck in a folder I hadn't seen it until today. My apologies.

I think you are correct on stories. Photography has always been that way for me, whether it's my work or work that I see. If there are words with the photograph I have answers to the questions. If there are no words I have unanswered questions. This isn't a bad thing but I think the photograph still has a story associated with it. I just don't know the details but I have an idea.

Not sure that makes sense but it's my story and I'm sticking to it.
